"Cause For Paws"

There are an estimated 60 million U.S. households who have pets. But how many die in house fires? Statistics are hard to come by.

Pet oxygen masks? Pets are at risk from smoke inhalation during a house fire. However, human oxygen masks do not fit properly on animals. The masks were originally developed for use by veterinarians but have evolved into rescue tools over the last few years and are increasingly becoming standard equipment for fire fighters. The masks come in three sizes, and connect to oxygen tanks that can be used for ferrets, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs.

"Cause for Paws" started in Michigan in 2006. Best Friends Pet Care located at 33771 Harper Avenue, Clinton Township has been an active participant for the past couple years. Best Friends has established a matching program for fire departments within a 15 mile radius, they match the community gifts on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Each oxygen mask set costs $50 which includes a small, medium and large mask
(big enough to fit on a
Great Dane).

How can one make a donation? Feel free to check out BestFriendsPetCare.com for more information. You can donate online or contact Best Friends Pet Care in Clinton Township at 586-792-3000.
