Learn Not To Burn (LNTB) Program

The Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF) is a strong supporter of the Learn Not To Burn (LNTB) Program. The Learn Not To Burn Program is a teaching program developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Exposure, by children, to the program has resulted in hundreds of documented saves, including self-preservation often by very young children. The program has been approved by the National Education Association (NEA) and is applauded by teachers.

MAFF (Michigan Association of Fire Fighters) has distributed Learn Not To Burn curriculum binders (resource books) to nearly 1,030 schools in 77 counties. It is MAFF's intention to provide the Learn Not To Burn resource books - free of charge - to elementary schools and preschools throughout all counties in the state of Michigan.

The resource books were designed for children in preschool and grades
K-3.

LNTB Preschool Program - The Learn Not to Burn Preschool Program is a practical pilot-tested and evaluated program to teach fire safety awareness and skills to children aged 3 – 5.

A pre-test and post-test evaluation of four of the lessons indicated a 37% increase in knowledge.

LNTB (Grade K-3) Program - The Learn Not To Burn resource books (grades K-3) outline 14 fire safety behaviors. Each behavior includes background information on fire safety lessons, discussion points, and reproducible activity sheets.

New 2006 - LNTB Programs available to MAFF Members

The Michigan Association of Fire Fighters is offering a limited supply of the Learn Not To Burn resource books (free of charge) to MAFF members. MAFF members may use these resource books as an educational tool for their Fire Department or for distribution to elementary and preschool administrators in their community.

Those interested in receiving a Learn Not To Burn Program may send a written request to the Michigan Association of Fire Fighters LNTB Program. LNTB requests may be sent via fax (248-304-8810), mail (27704 Franklin Rd., Southfield, MI 48034), or email (MAFF@ameritech.net Attn: LNTB Program).

LNTB Program requests should include the names and addresses of the fire department to receive the program, a contact name and telephone number, and list the grade levels to receive the LNTB Program (ex. PreK, K-3, or PreK-3). Complimentary coloring handouts will be provided to accompany the Preschool LNTB Program to those who include a preschool student count with their written request.

Members may contact the MAFF Office (248-304-8806) with questions or to obtain additional information.

Note to MAFF Members: Please submit your request for MAFF's Learn Not To Burn program as soon as possible as MAFF's limited supply of the LNTB Program will be available on a 'first come, first serve' basis.
