The Michigan
Association of Fire Fighters Learn Not To Burn Program (LNTB)
has touched every county in the state of Michigan. MAFF has
supplied over 1,120 LNTB programs - free of charge - to elementary
schools, fire departments, and preschool administrators statewide.
Developed
by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) the Learn
Not To Burn Curriculum is based on NFPA's belief that fire
safety information should be presented in a positive, non-threatening
manner, teaching children how to make responsible choices
regarding health and safety. NFPA data notes the LNTB program
is used in more than 50,000 classrooms nationwide. The Michigan
Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF) is a strong supporter
of the Learn Not To Burn (LNTB) program and will continue
it's commitment to help save lives by distributing the highly
acclaimed Learn Not To Burn Program to fire departments, preschools,
and elementary schools throughout the State of Michigan.

MAFF
Offers two separate LNTB Programs:
Learn
Not To Burn Preschool Program
The LNTB Preschool Program uses original songs, games, and
activities to each basic fire and burn prevention behaviors
to children ages 3-5. The lessons in the program are short
and simple and encourage active participation. The program
includes a teacher's guide featuring detailed lesson plans,
fire safety background information, letters to parents and
reproducible coloring sheets.
Learn
Not To Burn Elementary School Program
MAFF introduces the New LNTB K-2 Program. The National Fire
Protection Association (NFPA) has introduced a new Kindergarten
through Grade 2 Program to replace the LNTB Kindergarten through
Grade 3 Program. MAFF has already started phasing the new
curriculum into its LNTB Program.
As with
the K-3 Curriculum, MAFF's newly introduced Learn Not To Burn
(K-2) Program incorporates fire safety behaviors into regular
school subjects allowing youngsters to absorb lifesaving information
while developing skills in reading, math, art, history, and
science. The activity-oriented projects help young children
learn fire safety habits by practicing them.
