City of Troy Firefighters Settle Contract

In a move which is uncommon in these times, the 12 member unit of Troy Firefighters settled on a 3 year contract before their expiration date. It covers the time period from July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2009.

According to Rod Bovensiep of the Troy FD, it was in the best interest of both the city and the unit to hammer out an agreement ASAP. "Our City Manager was soon retiring, so we approached him with the suggestion that we do our best to settle the contract before he left."

And that they did! The group received a 3% per year raise in salary for each of the three years, and created a new entry level position of Fire Staff Technician. The creation of a medical expense retirement account was established for newly hired personnel, with both the City and the new hire contributing to the plan.

All 12 members of the unit (2 Assistant Chiefs and 10 Lieutenants) work at the Fire Department Administrative Offices located in City Hall.

The unit was represented by MAFF President Mike O'Lear.
