Fire Department Receives Homeland
Security Grant
The Novi Fire Department has been awarded 2006 Assistance
to Firefighters Grant by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
for more than $75,000.00. The purpose of this program is to
protect the health and safety of the public and fire fighters
against fire and fire-related incidents.
The grant
money will be used to purchase rugged, laptop computers for
primary response and command vehicles. The laptops will be
utilized to provide federally mandated Firefighter Right to
Know information, street mapping and hydrant locations, and
fire and emergency medical service reporting.
"The
laptops will allow for instantaneous communication during
an emergency," notes Frank A. Smith, Novi's Fire Chief.
"Additionally, firefighters will have access to valuable
building, location, and inspection information while at an
emergency scene, making the laptops an extremely useful tool
to further ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community."
