MAFF's Learn Not to Burn mission continues statewide

The Michigan Association of Fire Fighters is reminding its members, other fire fighters and school officials that it is continuing its mission of distributing Learn Not to Burn curriculum binders and/or resource books to schools.

"It is MAFF's intention to provide the curriculum or the National Fire Protection Association's new Learn Not to Burn resource books free of charge to schools throughout all counties in the state," said Penny Cantin, MAFF Community Programs Coordinator. "We strongly support the Learn Not To Burn program, which is a teaching project developed by the NFPA. Known saves attributed to this program numbers over 700. Many incidents document instances of self preservation, often by very young children."

"The program has been approved by the National Education Association and is applauded by teachers, some of whom request the information because they want to supplement their knowledge in order to help children learn more about fire safety."

MAFF recently presented a set of the four-volume resource books to each of the elementary schools in the Au Train-Onota Public Schools at the request of Administrator Maryalice Boone.

MAFF's Learn Not to Burn program is financed by private sector participation. For more information, please contact Penny Cantin at 248-304-8806.
